Director of ravens rhythm

  • Sissi is passionate about creating opportunities for young people and she collaborates with key members in our community to make change happen. Sissi has carried many roles within her time on Ravens Rhythm such as captain, event coordinator, social media manager, stunt coach, head coach and she is our current Director. Sissi’s background stems through dance and cheerleading and she has been a part of several organizations: BlackWidow, Tumblers Gymnastics, Redblacks Cheer and Dance. Recently in 2023, Sissi has founded the first ever professional basketball dance pak in Ottawa, Capital Crew, who represents the Ottawa BlackJacks at home games.

Coaches

  • Yolanda Yip -Head Coach & CO-Director

    Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Yolanda moved to Ottawa to further her education and completed a Bachelor’s of Science Honours in Neuroscience & Mental Health at Carleton University.

    Yolanda’s passion for dance and performance began at the age of two. She trained at various institutions in Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Tap, and Chinese Folk Dance. She also has formally obtained and continues to hold her Teacher’s Certificate in Modern Dance under The British Association of Teachers of Dancing.

    Yolanda joined the performance cheer world through Ravens Rhythm in 2017. As an athlete and later Dance Captain, she focused greatly on further building their community fundraising portfolio. She then joined Ravens Rhythm as a Guest Coach in Summer 2022 and then became the inaugural Cross Coach for the 2023-2024 season further developing her love for education, mentoring, and creating inclusive community environments. She holds Performance Cheer Coaching Skill Credentials in Pom with the ICU and is in the process to obtaining her certifications in Jazz/High Kick, Hip Hop and Cheerleading.

  • Aminah Derman - Head Coach

    Aminah is one of our amazing Head Coaches for the 2025-2026 season. Aminah was born and raised in Cambridge, Ontario, before moving to Ottawa to continue her academic journey at Carleton. Aminah grew up dancing, but discovered her love of cheer when she joined Ravens Rhythm in 2021. While on Ravens Rhythm Aminah was both a captain and member of student staff.

  • Madison Albert - Head Coach

    Madi Albert joins the coaching staff after four seasons as an athlete with Ravens Rhythm. During her time on the team, she established herself as a leader both on and off the court, earning Rookie of the Year (2022), the Initiative Award (2024), and MVP (2024).

    With over 15 years of training in jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, ballet, pom, and musical theatre, Albert brings a dynamic performance background and strong technical foundation to her coaching role. She developed her skills as a competitive dancer with DA Studio, earning numerous awards for both solo and group work, and went on to complete the Fine Arts Certificate in Dance at Canterbury High School.

    Now stepping into the position of Head Coach, she is focused on building an environment rooted in precision, performance quality, and team culture — continuing to push the standard for Ravens Rhythm while honouring the legacy of those who came before her.

  • Annabelle Drake - Stunt Coach

    Originally from Ottawa, Annabelle started her cheer journey over a decade ago at Black Widow Cheer Gym. Her love for the sport continued to flourish at Cheer Sport Sharks Ottawa, where she had the opportunity to compete with her team at UCA in Orlando, Florida. Her passion drove her to transfer to a school across the city in order to be able to take part in the Sport Étude Cheer program for her final two years of high school, where she became a leader on the team and discovered her affinity for guiding younger athletes.

    Once at Carleton University, she decided to try sideline cheerleading through Ravens Rhythm and fell in love with the supportive and welcoming environment the team offered. She had the privilege of cheering as a RR athlete on the sidelines for four years, as well as competing with the team in their first two competitive seasons, and taking on the role of Skills Coordinator in her fourth year. She also competed with Carleton University’s Coed Premier team for the 2023-2024 season.

    Now a dedicated coach at Rideau Gymnastics, she has further developed her passion for guiding athletes to success through safe skill progression and technique. She is beyond excited to put her wide variety of experience to work as Stunt Coach for the 2025-2026 season.

  • Erin McKechnie - Assistant Coach

    Erin is one of our Assistant Coaches for the 2025/2026 season. From Eganville Ontario, she came to Carleton and started her cheer journey with Ravens Rhythm in 2022. After 3 years as an athlete on Ravens Rhythm, she is excited to be part of RR coaching staff in her 4th year on the team.

  • Gabriella Swan - Assistant Coach

    Gabby is thrilled to be returning for the 2025–2026 season as both a veteran athlete and assistant coach with Ravens Rhythm. Originally from Mississauga, ON, she began her athletic journey in gymnastics, starting recreationally before transitioning into four years of competitive acrobatic gymnastics, where she proudly represented Ontario internationally. She later taught gymnastics at her home club before moving to Ottawa for school and joining Ravens Rhythm. Through RR, Gabby has attended Pro Action Dance, a collegiate dance convention in Las Vegas, and is now entering her third season as a dedicated member of the coaching staff. She is excited to continue contributing to an inclusive and supportive program where athletes can thrive!
